Jewish National Fund (JNF)

Jewish National Fund logo.

Jewish National Fund, founded 100 years ago at the Fifth Zionist Congress, is the caretaker of the land of Israel.  The Israel Advocacy and Education Department of Jewish National Fund engages, educates and energizes the Jewish community of the United States to a deeper commitment to the land and people of Israel. Our programs build student activists and leaders, while building awareness and support of Israel on college campuses through a variety of initiatives.

  • Caravan for Democracy is the vehicle that drives constructive dialogue on college campuses throughout the United States by featuring different speakers from Israel to discuss the challenges Israel faces as the only democracy in the Middle East.  Speakers will tour college campuses around the United Stated for two weeks at a time.  Two-three tours will take place throughout the year.

Caravan for Democracy small programs grants will provide funding opportunities to help campuses bring speakers, advocacy trainers, etc.  Grants will be up to $500 towards Israel programming.

  • JNF Alternative Spring Break in Israel

  • Make your spring break meaningful with Jewish National Fund! Spend your vacation getting back to Israel and giving back to Israel. This March join JNF in building the Negev and rebuilding the North in creating a better Israel.

By participating in ASB, college students and young adults will be able to experience what the early chalutzim (pioneers) of Israel experienced, turning the desert into livable land. They will be working with several of the 25 new communities that JNF is developing in the Negev. Over the next five to ten years these communities will be the homes for 250,000 Israelis. They will be complete with parks, roads, schools, water supplies, electricity, and modes of transportation. We will also work on projects in other towns in the Negev and other regions of Israel that are in need of our assistance.

The 7-8 day trip is heavily subsidized and will devote 60% of the time to community service and 20% to educational programming on the history of the region and communities, the work being done there now, and its importance. The final 20% will be dedicated to tourism and fun.

Our goal is to connect participants to the land and people of Israel by exploring the region, meeting local residents, discussing the value of Jewish service, and connecting young Jews of different backgrounds from all over the United States with one another.

Once registered each participant must raise a minimum of $1050 to participate in the program through a personalized webpage (similar to a walk-a-thon).  The money raised will go directly to our with our Blueprint Negev campaign, not to trip expenses. For more information please visit www.jnf.org/springbreak, email JNF Alternative Spring Break or call (212) 879-9305 x245.

  • JNF’s Project Green

Project Green is the student initiative of JNF GoNeutral, an environmental movement for tomorrow.  It is an exciting new JNF effort to promote environmental education and involvement. Through the JNF GoNeutral campaign, you can calculate your carbon footprint and offset it by planting trees in Israel - one tree will offset one ton of carbon over its lifetime. You can also choose to support environmental research which includes developing alternative sources of energy.  Students can take measures to minimize their carbon emissions and offset the remainder through the program.  To learn more visit the Go Neutral web site.

JNF Project Green engages college students in environmental issues and to take action. JNF works with campus organizations including Hillel, Chabad, and other campus groups to connect students to different environmental activities both locally and in Israel. Students will receive bimonthly e-newsletters; meet with environmental leaders; participate in JNF Go Neutral programs including a special Shabbat, enjoying a Tu B'Shevat Seder, and planting trees in Israel as part of a nation wide campus initiative to offset your Hillel's or Chabad’s carbon footprint.

Students will have the opportunity to meet with environmental leaders from Israel who share their knowledge and expertise. They teach students how to act both locally and globally. Speakers also emphasize the unique contribution Israel is making regarding environmental issues and JNF’s role as a global environmental leader.
