Location: Washington, D.C. Telework available within the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area.

Hours: Full time or part time arrangements available.

Hiring Institution: The Louis D. Brandeis Center, Inc., is an independent, nonprofit civil rights organization established to advance the civil and human rights of the Jewish people and promote justice for all. LDB is primarily focused on combating campus anti-Semitism and anti-Israelism through research, education and legal advocacy.

Principal duties: Staff Attorneys are responsible for managing a substantial docket of cases involving anti-Semitism and discrimination against Israeli students in American colleges and universities; delivering written and oral presentations to a variety of audiences; interviewing witnesses and potential complainants; researching substantive issues of federal and state law; conducting intake activities, including assessment of potential actions; preparing legal complaints, briefs, and related documents; researching and analyzing public policy issues; and delivering oral presentations to a variety of audiences. Additional duties may include working with law students to develop student groups focused on these issues; interacting with complainants, witnesses, government officials, public interest advocates, other nonprofit organizations, university administrators, activists and/or the public; assisting in the preparation of conferences, workshops, lectures and symposia; preparing continuing legal education materials; developing public policy white papers and related policy materials; and generally providing trusted legal and policy support. Senior Staff Attorney is also responsible for supervising the work of other attorneys and assistants.

Qualifications: The successful candidate must have a J.D. and excellent academic credentials from an ABA-accredited law school and maintain the highest standards of integrity; maintain membership in the District of Columbia bar; exhibit excellence in legal analysis and writing; and display, at all times and to all persons, a courteous, professional and cooperative attitude. Significant litigation experience and a demonstrated interest in LDB’s mission are preferred for Staff Attorney and required for Senior Staff Attorney.

Compensation: Non-profit market competitive.

General: Position is dependent on budget availability. Funding based on annually renewable grant.

Travel: Substantial travel required.
